Born in little old Hokitika, New Zealand, Hav moved to Nelson at age 17 in search of greener b-ball pastures, where he then went on to represent Wiamea College in both his senior years of High School and represented Neslon at U18, U20 and U23 representative levels. He also played for the Nelson Suns during this time, a second division team competing in the league below the NZ National Basketball League.

Hav then went MIA for a few years as study, work and injury all took their toll before resurfacing in Christchurch where he played second division for the Canterbury Knights and club ball for Checkers. His move to the UK forced him MIA again for a further few years before making his resurgence for Rocco's Raiders in their inaugural season in London .
